Who Are We?

Sport Physiotherapy BC (SPBC) is a provincial branch of Sport Physiotherapy Canada (SPC) who were founded in 1972 and has continued to grow into a major component of the national sports medicine scene. In 1978, SPC along with the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine (CASM), Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA) and Canadian Association of Sport Sciences (CASS, now known as the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology - CSEP) was instrumental in the establishment of the Sports Medicine and Science Council of Canada (SMSCC).

In 1982, a post-graduate education system was implemented within SPC to maintain a high standard of professional care. This recognized system of education allows a physiotherapist to progress through different levels of expertise as assessed by theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The Educational Level System is to promote and recognize physiotherapists who have developed specialized skills and knowledge in sport physiotherapy.
